Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV seeks a Sterile Processing Technician to clean, decontaminate, assemble and sterilize reusable patient care equipment and instrumentation. You will assemble surgical case carts, restock supplies, and maintain sterilization records under supervision.

Rotating weekends, evening shift, 40 hours/week, non-exempt. Responsibilities include operating sterilization equipment, inspecting instruments, and delivering carts via service elevator while

• Must become registered within 12 months to obtain certification.
• Certification within 12 months of receiving course materials.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes all reusable patient care equipment.
• Operates sterilization and decontamination equipment safely and efficiently.
• Inspects, assembles and sterilizes surgical and house instrumentation.
• Restocks case carts with supplies and instrumentation as indicated by pick lists.
• Restocks with unexpired products for Surgical Services including outpatient and labor & delivery carts.
• Stages and delivers case carts and equipment via clean carts and service elevator.
• Maintains adequate instrumentation and sterile supplies levels.
• Reports missing or damaged instrumentation/equipment per policy.
• Serves as initial departmental contact for inquiries.
• Responds to requests courteously by phone or in person.
• Receives and returns unexpired items to inventory per policy.
• Maintains clean, neat work areas daily.
• Cleans work area before shift end for next team.
• Attends regular in-services and participates in cross-training for new instrumentation.

Cleans, decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes all reusable patient care equipment, in accordance with departmental policy and procedure, Infection Control standards and regulations.2. Operates all sterilization and decontamination equipment, in accordance with departmental policies and procedures safely and efficiently asking for resourcing as needed.3. Inspects, assembles and sterilizes all surgical and house instrumentation in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.4. Restocks accurately case carts with supplies, instrumentation and equipment as indicated by pick list generated from daily surgical schedule.5. Restocks accurately with unexpired products for Surgical Services including the Outpatient Services and Labor & Delivery supply carts, specialty carts and top track.6. Stages and delivers case carts, stocking carts, and equipment via clean cart lift as well as clean OR service elevator.7. Inventories and maintains adequate levels of all instrumentation and sterile supplies utilized.8. Reports and records missing and/or damaged instrumentation/equipment, in accordance with set policy and procedure.9. Serves as initial contact for all departmental inquiries from customers.10. Answers, records and responds to all requests via phone and/or in person in a courteous and professional manner. Phone requests are to be answered in accordance to WVU Medicine Behavioral Standards.11. Receives and returns unexpired items to inventory, in accordance with set policy and procedure.12. Maintains work areas in a clean, neat and orderly fashion on a daily basis.13. Cleans work area prior to end of shift in preparation for the oncoming shift.14. Attends regularly scheduled in-services.15.
