Job summary

WH Wheeling Hospital Inc. is seeking a Non-Certified Sterile Instrument Tech (Will Train & Certify) to join the Sterile Processing team in Wheeling, WV. The role involves decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments across the hospital and affiliated offices.

Minimum of a high school diploma is required; certification in sterile processing is preferred. Prior sterile processing experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve contaminated instruments and deliver sterile instruments as needed.
  • Manually clean instruments to remove debris.
  • Operate and maintain decontamination equipment.
  • Inspect instruments and equipment for patient safety.
  • Test and report problems with equipment.
  • Sort and track cleaned vs. sterilized items.
  • Remove waste from transfer carts.
  • Organize, store and record sterile supplies.
  • Check expiration dates on supplies.
  • Maintain clean work areas per policies and infection control.
  • Operate mechanical equipment in central sterile.
  • Adhere to policies and complete assignments.
  • Delint towels and sheets as required.

Ensures to remove all waste matter from transfer carts. 8. Responsible for organizing, storing, and keeping records of sterile supplies. 9. Responsible for checking the expiration dates on supplies. 10. Maintains a clean work area following established departmental policies and procedures, and infection control standards. 11. Properly operates all mechanical machinery within central sterile. 12. Applies established policies and procedures in completing work assignments. 13.
