About the Position
Marion Eye Surgery Center is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to join our surgical team. This position plays an important role in patient safety by ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, decontaminated, inspected, assembled, sterilized, and ready for use.
The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and committed to maintaining high standards of infection prevention and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Operate sterilization and decontamination equipment according to established procedures.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper function, damage, and wear.
- Assemble surgical instrument trays accurately and ensure all required instruments are included.
- Prepare sterile instruments and supplies for scheduled surgical procedures.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records and required documentation.
- Monitor sterilization cycles and perform appropriate quality-control checks.
- Properly store and distribute sterile instruments and supplies.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and restock sterile processing and surgical supplies as needed.
- Follow infection control, safety, and sterile processing policies and procedures.
- Communicate with surgical staff regarding instrument and supply needs.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Report damage or malfunctioning instruments and equipment promptly.
- Assist the surgical team with other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous sterile processing, surgical, or healthcare experience preferred.
- Sterile Processing certification (CRCST, CSPDT, or equivalent) preferred.
- Knowledge of sterilization, decontamination, infection control, and aseptic techniques preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety guidelines.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a surgical team.
- Dependable with a strong work ethic and good attendance.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift, move, and handle surgical trays and supplies.
