Sterile Processing Supervisor - Outpatient Pavilion
Purpose & Scope:
The Supervisor of Central Sterile Processing supervises and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in collecting, cleaning, processing, sterilization, and delivering sterile supplies and equipment. Establishes methods and work performance standards for preparing, sterilizing, and handling sterile items. Maintains an adequate supply of items, avoiding stockouts and ensuring critical items are available; duplicates of instruments and equipment are in working order or sent for repair. Oversees the operating room case cart system and assumes responsibility for stocking all items listed on preference lists. Conducts and coordinates in-service training for department personnel. Prepares activity reports and assists the Manager in the preparation of the budget and inventory levels. Manages personnel actions including hiring, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and discharge in accordance with hospital policies. Ensures infection control guidelines related to sterile processing are followed. Supports and interprets the hospital's philosophy, objectives, and policies to the department and personnel.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Certificate from an accredited central service technician training program is required.
Experience:
At least three years of sterile processing experience is required. One year of supervisory experience is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
Certification in Central Sterile Processing must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
