Job summary

Universal Health Services in McAllen, TX seeks an SPD Supervisor to provide oversight of Sterile Processing Department, coordinating with Surgical Services and nursing units.

The role ensures compliant sterilization and High-Level Disinfection, manages SPD staff and budget with the Surgical Services Director, and drives efficiency and regulatory adherence.

The candidate will develop internal reviews to keep programs in line with accreditation and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• 4-5 years experience minimum in Sterile Processing with increasing responsibility. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
• Manual dexterity with the ability to assemble and disassemble complex instrumentation.
• Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and applications related to Instrument management (Censis, OneSource).
• English proficiency in speaking and writing.
• High School diploma or GED; Associates/Bachelor’s preferred.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification required.
• Within two years, acquire CIS, CER, CHL or CSIS/CFER/CSPM certifications as applicable.
• Certifications must be maintained as a term of employment; SPD credentials required for new hires by Jan 30, 2022.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and local operations management of the SPD supporting Surgical Services, nursing units, and clinics.
• Ensure compliant sterilization and High-Level Disinfection (HLD) functions with regulatory requirements.
• Manage SPD personnel and liaison with other departments; coordinate problem-solving and cooperation.
• Assist with SPD budget development, resource allocation, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
• Develop internal reviews to ensure service programs operate in compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies.
