Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in Creve Coeur, MO, seeks a Sterile Processing Supervisor to lead the Central Sterile Department in a high-volume surgical environment. The role emphasizes quality, safety, and efficient decontamination, sterilization, and distribution of instruments.

The supervisor will manage staff, coordinate with other departments, monitor schedules, and contribute to budgeting and staffing plans while ensuring compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2-5 years of experience in sterile processing or OR environment.
• CRCST certification preferred.
• Supervisor experience of 2-5 years preferred.
• Associates degree in Business/HC Admin or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directs sterile processing staff and manages hires, training and performance evaluations.
• Ensures decontamination, prep & pack, and documentation meet quality standards.
• Collaborates with other departments to apply professional standards.
• Provides planning for equipment, resources and space.
• Monitors surgery schedule to ensure instruments are available.
• Assists in developing departmental staffing and budget goals.
• Maintains compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.

Due to growth at Barnes West County, the surgical team is hiring a Sterile Processing Supervisor. This is a high volume short stay surgical facility performing a wide variety of services including heavy orthopedics. Shift: Evenings 1400-2230

Overview

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

Barnes-Jewish West County Central Sterile Processing Department provides a service that is an integral part of the quality of care that we provide for our patients. We ensure the integrity and sterility of our products and services for our customers. We control all parts of the sterilization process: decontamination, prep & pack, documentation of sterilization records, and sterile storage.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Directs and supports sterile processing staff to provide quality, efficient, cost-effective decontamination, sterilization and distribution services with proper management of service utilization and inventory levels.

Responsibilities

• Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
• Collaborates with other departments to ensure the appropriate professional standards are consistently applied.
• Provides decontamination and sterilization evaluation planning, operations and maintenance consultation to management at BJC organizations.
• Assists or manages the operations of unit services and integration with other departments.
• Provides input and may create effective work plans that include identifying the correct resources, processes and space needed for the work unit.
• Monitors surgery schedule of cases to assure proper instruments are available.
• May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
