Job summary

BJC HealthCare at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in Creve Coeur, MO, seeks a Sterile Processing Technician to support the Surgical Services team during the pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases. This full-time role runs nights (11:00pm–7:30am) with rotating on-call after 8–9 months.

Responsibilities include preparing equipment, sterilizing instruments, assembling case carts, and transporting supplies, while ensuring sterile technique and proper documentation. Minimum HS diploma and <2 years of related experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• <2 years experience in sterilization or OR support.
• Licensure/certification as applicable to sterile processing.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and processes instrument sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays per surgery schedule.
• Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.
• Follows proper techniques to ensure sterile process integrity.
• Disassembles, decontaminates, and processes instrumentation per standards.
• Transports patients and materials to support diagnosis and treatment.

Barnes-Jewish West County Central Sterile Processing Department provides a service that is anintegral part of the quality of care that we provide for our patients. We ensure the integrity and sterility of our products and services for our customers. Wecontrol all parts of the sterilization process: decontamination, prep & pack, documentation of sterilization records, and sterile storage.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Function as a team member in the operating room to support medical and nursing staff during the pre, intra, and post-operative phase, including preparing equipment and supplies for use by the medical team, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and reusable supplies, assembling case carts/trays and performing direct patient care as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and processes instruments sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.
• Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.
• Follows proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process.
• Disassembles, decontaminates, and processes instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards.
• Transports patients with any necessary materials and documents to treat or diagnose.
