Job summary

Hartford HealthCare's Backus Hospital is seeking a Regional SPD Educator to lead ongoing education for the Sterile Processing Services (SPS) team. The role ensures adherence to standardized training, tracks cadence and compliance, and facilitates training across departments.

The educator runs classes, supports staff development, and implements remediation for new and existing personnel, with a strong focus on infection prevention and optimal decontamination and sterilization workflows.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in sterile processing, with 1+ years in training or process improvement leadership.
• SPS Certification is required.
• Knowledge of AAMI/JCAHO/AORN regulations and Lean management concepts.

Responsibilities

• Manage and organize all continuing education for the SPS department.
• Ensure the standardized training program is utilized and training cadence is tracked.
• Document attendance, training compliance reports, and deliver training classes.
• Educate staff on infection prevention procedures for decontamination, sterilization, and handling of instruments.
• Lead development and remediation programs for new and existing SPS staff.

Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Services Educator manages and organizes all continuing education for the SPS department. Ensures that the HHC standardized training program is utilized. Responsible for documenting cadence and attendance, training compliance reporting, and facilitates training classes. Observes and educates the personnel performing Sterile Processing functions. Runs a rigorous training and development program for new SPS staff, as well as a remediation program for existing staff. Educates employees on proper infection prevention procedures for decontamination, sterilization, storage, transportation of equipment, sterile supplies and instruments/sets utilized across HHC hospitals and surgical centers.

Education

• High school diploma

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in sterile processing, with 1+ years of training experience and/or process improvement leadership and implementation

Licensure, Certification, Registration

• SPS Certification required

Knowledge, Skills And Ability Requirements

• Ability to lift 40 pounds
• Maintain a minimum of 10 CEUs per year
• Knowledge of AAMI/JCAHO/AORN regulations
• Understanding of Lean management processes in order to utilize data to drive process improvement and create standard
• Demonstrate proficiency in planning and delivering education and training effectively, in compliance with AAMI/JCAHO/AORN regulations and HHC protocols.
