Job summary

Children's National Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to oversee the inspection, preparation, receipt and issuance of sterile equipment for the Operating Room and inpatient units. The role supports clinical operations with attention to aseptic technique and accuracy in handling instruments.

Responsibilities include washing, inspecting, assembling instrument sets, maintaining records, and ensuring safety across the SPD.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year 6 months to 1 year related experience required.
• Moderate computer ability, strong communication skills, and aseptic technique knowledge.
• Basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
• CRCST certification required.

Responsibilities

• Patient Advocate: Support patients, families and staff; report concerns or issues regarding preoperative care to appropriate personnel.
• Instrument and Supply Quality and Maintenance: Receive, wash, inspect, prepare and issue instruments, trays and other equipment according to policies and procedures.
• Aseptic Technique: Identify principles of sterile technique and follow safety protocols.
• Sterile Processing: Load and operate washers, dryers, ultrasonic cleaners, sterilizers and cart wash machines; prepare instrument sets and maintain records.
• Safety: Speak up about unsafe behavior; ensure clear communication and promote safety for patients and staff.
