Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL is seeking a Sterile Processing department leader to oversee personnel, finances and operations, ensuring compliance with AAMI, OSHA, and Joint Commission standards. You will coordinate with Surgery leadership to meet instrumentation needs and drive quality assurance across the department.

The role requires a 6+ year track record in sterile processing, CRCST/CSPDT certification, and an Associate degree (Bachelor's preferred).

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements.
  • Knowledge of AAMI, IAHCSMM, OSHA, and infection prevention standards.
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
  • Ability to manage stresses and handle challenging situations.
  • Computer knowledge and skills.
  • BLS.
  • Knowledge or experience with computerized instrument tracking system.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation to supervisors in resolving complex administrative issues.
  • Manages the personnel, financial, and operational activities of the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Ensures compliance with administrative and regulatory standards within the healthcare facility.
  • Plans, implements, and manages policies, procedures, competencies, educational activities, and quality assurance programs related to sterilization of reusable instruments and equipment.
  • Maintains record-keeping systems for processing instruments and equipment, specifications, trays, QA, case carts, and materials output.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to supervisors, coordinators, and technicians to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and fiscal responsibility.
  • Collaborates with Surgery leadership to meet daily instrumentation needs and liaise between Central Services and other hospital departments.
  • Establishes and maintains sterilization, safety and security standards and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Manages personnel actions including hiring, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, recognition programs, and scheduling time off.
  • Allocates personnel to meet staffing needs and assists leaders with associate relations issues.
  • Participates in system-wide committees related to sterilization and disinfection and ensures regulatory compliance.
  • Assists in evaluating new products and patient equipment through committee work.

Job Description:

  • Provides consultation to supervisors in resolving complex administrative issues.
  • Manages the personnel, financial, and operational activities of the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Ensures compliance with administrative and regulatory standards within the healthcare facility.
  • Plans, implements, and manages policies, procedures, competencies, educational activities, and quality assurance programs related to the acquisition, decontamination, storage, and sterilization of reusable surgical instrumentation and other medical equipment.
  • Maintains record-keeping systems for processing instruments and equipment, specifications for instruments, assembled trays, quality assurance, case carts, and materials output.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to supervisors, coordinators, and technicians to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and fiscal responsibility.
  • Collaborates with Surgery leadership and staff to meet daily instrumentation needs and acts as a liaison between Central Services and other hospital departments to ensure the availability of necessary equipment for patient care.
  • Establishes and maintains sterilization, safety, and security standards, policies, and procedures for Sterile Processing to ensure compliance with AAMI, AORN, OSHA, CDC, EPA, FDA, Joint Commission, and state and local regulations.
  • Manages various personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, recognition programs, and scheduling time off.
  • Ensures appropriate allocation of personnel to meet staffing and scheduling needs; assists subordinate leaders in resolving associate relation issues.
  • Participates in system-wide committees related to sterilization, decontamination, and disinfection, and ensures compliance with regulatory and national society standards.
  • Assists in the evaluation of new products and patient equipment through membership on various committees.
