Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to ensure instrument integrity and readiness for procedures. You will precept new staff, assist with tray development and in-service education, and manage instrument repair, tracking, and par levels across our facility.

The role requires 3+ years of sterile processing experience, CRCST/CSPDT certifications, and strong documentation and communication skills to support compliance and patient care.

Qualifications

• Sterile processing experience is required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain regulatory compliance and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Precept new employees on instrument inspection and assembly.
• Assist surgeons with tray development and in-service education.
• Manage instrument repair, tracking, and timely return of items.
• Update instrument count sheets and tracking system.
• Collaborate to determine set contents and instrument utilization.
• Demonstrate clinical competence in sterile processing and regulatory adherence.
• Document information accurately and communicate effectively.
• Maintain instrument inventory and par levels; order as needed.
• Identify missing instruments and implement process improvements.

Job Description:

• Provides new employee precepting on instrument inspection and assembly.
• Works with new surgeons on tray development and provides in-service education with SPD educator.
• Manages instrument repair and maintenance, ensuring proper tracking and timely return of items.
• Updates instrument count sheets and maintain the instrument tracking system.
• Collaborates with service coordinators to determine set contents and evaluate instrument utilization.
• Demonstrates clinical competence in sterile processing and adheres to regulatory requirements.
• Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing and accurately documents information.
• Deals efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
• Manages instrument inventory, including tracking, ordering, and maintaining par levels.
• Identifies reasons for missing instruments and implements process improvements to reduce missing items.
• Remains calm and focused during stressful and emotionally charged situations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Sterile processing experience [Required]
• Education: High School Grad or Equivalent [Preferred]
• Field of Study: Completed Sterile processing core curriculum
• Work Experience: 3+ certified sterile processing technician [Required]
• Licenses and Certifications: Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) [Required]
• Licenses and Certifications: Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) [Required]
