Education/Experience
High School diploma or GED equivalent with two years' experience in Sterile Processing.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, And/or REGISTRATION
Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or other sterile processing certification required.
Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire.
Essential Functions
- Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.
- Assumes role and responsibilities Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
- Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees.
- Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor.
- Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.
- Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.
- Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.
- Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.
- Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
- Protects self, co-workers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s).
Skills/Qualifications
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work with computer programs such as Excel and others as needed. Ability to order instruments via PeopleSoft.

- Exposure to hazards of steam and heat, may be subject to burns.

- Exposure to sharp instruments that may cause cuts or abrasions.
- Must wear PPE.
