Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Sterile Processing Instrument Technician II to follow robust Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization steps. You will clean instruments, inspect, perform function tests, and assemble for High Level Disinfection, adhering to Manufacturer's Instructions for Use and hospital policies.

This role requires keeping accurate logs and computer records, prioritizing instrumentation for processing, answering phones, and dispatching equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 months experience in Sterile Processing or 400 hours of hands-on experience.
• CRCST Certification through HSPA or CSPDT through CBSPD.
• Basic computer skills must be demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Follow Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization workflows as per policy.
• Clean instruments and equipment to remove bioburden and prepare for processing.
• Inspect, function test, and assemble instruments for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization.
• Maintain accurate documentation using logs or computer systems.
• Prioritize instrumentation for processing and coordinate dispatch of equipment and supplies.
• Answer telephones and support communication within the department.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician II, under general supervision follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician always follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems. Documentation includes processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Details:

It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes.
