Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL seeks an experienced SPD professional to lead sterile processing and education initiatives within the department. The role emphasizes compliance, competency development, and coordination of staff training across SPD and OR areas.

The incumbent will plan, deliver, and assess educational programs, teach decontamination and sterilization techniques, and collaborate with hospital departments to improve patient safety and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Must have comprehensive knowledge in SPD and sterilization processes.
  • Experience with inventory control and reprocessing techniques preferred.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission and regulatory standards preferred.
  • 2+ operating room experience and teaching skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes evaluation methods to determine effectiveness of programs.
  • Ensures department compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Writes and administers annual competencies, submitting documentation to HR and Education.
  • Uses performance improvement models to identify issues and improve outcomes within and between departments.
  • Facilitates and coordinates continuing education opportunities for SPD employees.
  • Identifies employee education needs through formal and informal assessments.
  • Plans, develops, and implements educational programs for SPD staff.
  • Teaches classes within decontamination, tray assembly, sterilization, case carting, supplies, and OR scheduling.
  • Collects and interprets statistical data to improve departmental competency performance.
  • Partners with all hospital departments to identify, improve, and implement best practices and protocols.
  • Performs root cause analysis, makes recommendations, and develops training materials to reduce future defects.
  • Researches current literature and standards to identify optimal learning experiences for staff.

Job Description:

  • Teaches classes within areas of expertise such as decontamination, tray assembly, sterilization, case carting, supplies, and OR scheduling.
  • Collects and interprets statistical data to improve departmental competency performance.
  • Partners with all hospital departments to identify, improve, and implement best practices and protocols.
  • Performs root cause analysis, makes recommendations, and develops training materials to reduce future defects.
  • Researches current literature and standards to identify optimal learning experiences for staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge and experience in surgical instrumentation, microbiology as it relates to SPD and OR, cleaning procedure, disinfection, sterilization, and the care, handling, disassembly of hospital equipment and surgical instruments. [Required]
  • Knowledge of specific health care products, patient care equipment and basic use is required. [Preferred]
  • Must hold comprehensive knowledge in inventory control, supply distribution, receiving, reprocessing techniques and principles, production management and regulating agency standards. [Preferred]
  • Five years of responsible SPD experience and progressive work experiences in SPD and adult education learning and development positions. [Preferred]
  • Knowledge of operating room procedures, Joint Commission standards, American National Standard/Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation. [Preferred]

  • Associate [Preferred]
  • Bachelor's [Preferred]
  • High School Grad or Equivalent [Required]
Field of Study:
  • Graduateof an accredited vocational school
Work Experience:
  • 2+ operating room experience[Preferred]
  • 5+sterile processing with demonstrated teaching skills [Preferred]
  • Previous supervisory experience [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) [Required] OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) [Required] OR Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) [Required]

Pay Range:

$21.77 - $40.48
