Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia Health System seeks an Education Coordinator SPD to train Sterile Processing staff at UVA Health's main SPD and related areas, ensuring adherence to IAHCSMM, CBSPD, AORN, The Joint Commission, FDA, OSHA and other standards.

You will develop and deliver training, maintain competency records, and partner with OR and instrumentation leaders to close gaps and support continuous improvement across shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
• 3+ years training experience required; 3+ years Sterile Processing experience required.
• CRCST (IAHCSMM) or CSPDT (CBSPD) certification required; CER (IAHCSMM) or CFER (CBSPD) certification within 6 months; CIS (IAHCSMM) or CSIS (CBSPD) within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Provide training and development to SPD team members at main SPD and OPSC.
• Provide leadership in professional development of SPD team members.
• Ensure employees are trained on all required competency levels across departments.
• Conduct assessments of job performance and train to close gaps.
• Assist in new hire orientation and on-the-job training.
• Maintain training records and competency documentation.
• Keep employee training files up to date in hospital records.
• Serve as a resource on instrumentation and multi-specialty procedures.
• Provide re-education training for performance issues; address issues identified in audits.
• Aid ongoing staff education with in-services on a cadence determined by management.
• Adjust schedules to cover all shifts and training needs.
