Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL is seeking a Surgical Tech to support operating room procedures. Responsibilities include preparing sterile supplies, assisting staff during surgeries, and ensuring sterile technique throughout procedures.

The role requires CST certifications and at least 1 year of scrub experience in a multi-disciplinary surgical service, with night shifts and on-call expectations. Candidates must meet education requirements and demonstrate proficiency in English, teamwork, and patient

Job Description

• Prepares sterile dressings and clean instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists other team members with terminal cleaning of the room and prepping for the next patient.
• Handles surgical specimens with 100% accuracy.
• Recognizes and responds immediately to emergency situations appropriately.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
• Obtains scrubs, gowns, and gloves for surgical procedures.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures, displaying knowledge of procedure and patient positioning.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is closed.
• Gowns and gloves the surgeon and assistants.
• Assists in draping the sterile field.
• Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure.
• Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
• Shift: 3 nights/week 1845-0715.
• 2 on-call shifts in 6-week schedule.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Able to precept and act as resource person and preceptor in multiple surgical specialties [Preferred]
• Minimum of one year scrub experience in a multi-disciplinary surgical service [Required]
• Demonstrated specialization in one or more surgical areas as determined by Director [Required]
• Proficient in the English language [Required]
• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia, surgical site infection prevention, emergency code cart, high and low level disinfection, clinical alarms, medication management, isolation precautions, surgical care of patients age (0-100+), fire safety, AIDET, and SBAR [Required]
• Proficient in a minimum of 3 major surgical specialties [Preferred]

Education

• High School Grad or Equivalent [Required]
• Technical/Vocational School [Required]
• Associate [Preferred]

Work Experience

• 1+ years of experience as certified surgical tech OB experience [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
• State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required]
• OR NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required]
• OR Technician in Surgery - Certified (NTSC) [Required]

Pay Range: $23.94 - $44.53
