Job summary

New York Edge is seeking a Step Specialist to work in Bronx, NY, on a part-time, hourly basis. The role focuses on stepping/dance instruction for students within NYC public schools.

The Step Specialist will teach the art of step, organize rehearsals, and adapt lessons to student needs while following the New York Edge curriculum. The schedule is 9-15 hours/week, weekdays from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, with safety clearances required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• At least 1 year of teaching experience with youth is required.
• Passion for New York Edge's mission and youth development is preferred.
• Ability to follow a curriculum is essential.
• Reliable, responsible, and punctual behavior is required.

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
• Teaches the art of step, ensuring that each member is afforded an equal opportunity in learning the art.
• Organize performance groups and direct their rehearsals.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants and demonstrate the use of materials and equipment.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet students' needs and interests.
