Job summary

Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis is seeking a STEM Instructor responsible for creating engaging STEM programs for youth ages 6–18 at the Technical Training Center. This role involves designing hands-on experiences to foster critical thinking and digital literacy.

The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 2 years of teaching experience. Strong communication and classroom management skills are essential, as well as the ability to work with diverse populations.

Qualifications

Position Summary

The STEM Instructor is responsible for planning, implementing, and facilitating engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs for youth ages 6–18 at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis Technical Training Center. The instructor will provide hands‑on learning experiences that develop critical thinking, problem‑solving, creativity, digital literacy, and career readiness skills while fostering a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Instruction
  • Design and deliver age-appropriate STEM lessons, workshops, and project-based learning activities.
  • Teach topics such as robotics, coding, engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital media, drones, 3D printing, and emerging technologies.
  • Facilitate hands‑on technical training aligned with workforce development and career pathways.
  • Integrate real‑world applications and industry trends into lesson plans.
  • Adapt instructional methods to meet diverse learning styles and abilities.
Youth Development
  • Build positive relationships with Club members and serve as a mentor and role model.
  • Promote a culture of curiosity, innovation, teamwork, and academic achievement.
  • Encourage participation in STEM competitions, showcases, and community projects.
  • Support members in setting educational and career goals.
Program Management
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and program documentation.
  • Monitor participant progress and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and inventory of STEM equipment and technology.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment and enforce Club policies and procedures.
Community & Partnership Engagement
  • Collaborate with schools, colleges, industry professionals, and community partners to enhance STEM programming.
  • Coordinate with guest speakers, field trips, and career exploration opportunities.
  • Assist with grant‑funded initiatives and reporting requirements as needed.
Administrative Duties
  • Prepare lesson plans, materials, and instructional resources.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training opportunities.
  • Assist with special events, recruitment activities, and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in education, STEM‑related field, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching, training, or facilitating STEM programs for youth.
  • Experience with coding platforms, robotics systems, maker spaces, or technical training equipment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of STEM concepts and emerging technologies.
  • Experience with educational technology and learning management platforms.
  • Ability to develop engaging, hands‑on instructional activities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and age groups.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout instructional spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to operate computers, tablets, robotics equipment, and other technical training tools.
Certifications & Requirements
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check and child abuse registry screening.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for special programs and events.

Salary Range - Annually

(commensurate with education, certifications, and experience)
