Job summary

Harvard University’s Ramanathan lab is seeking a Research Assistant to support stem cell biology and human development research. You will coordinate multiple project facets and perform experiments with IPS, embryonic, and GMP cell lines, including genetic modifications and mouse work as needed.

You will train and collaborate with lab members, analyze data, and assist with maintaining equipment and protocols in a fast-paced lab environment on campus in Cambridge, MA.

Qualifications

• College or advanced degree preferably in a related discipline; directly related work experience may substitute.
• 3+ years of experience in a biological research setting, including human stem cell work.
• Experience maintaining, passaging, expanding, or differentiating stem cell lines, or experience with mouse work (maintenance, breeding, surgeries).
• Basic molecular biology techniques including PCR/qPCR, cloning, DNA/RNA extraction, CRISPR, transfection, or viral transduction.
• Experience with immunostaining, flow cytometry and related molecular assays.
• Experience optimizing protocols and troubleshooting cell-based experiments.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates multiple aspects of research project and carries out laboratory experiments using specific techniques and equipment.
• Manufactures cortical tissue from multiple cell lines including IPS, embryonic stem cell, and GMP lines.
• Performs genetic modifications and maintains each cell line, including modified reporters.
• Assists lab members with mouse work, breeding, and surgeries.
• Collaborates on experimental design, protocols, and new techniques.
• Processes and analyzes data, reporting results using scientific software.
• May train and oversee others in lab techniques.
• Maintains lab equipment and supplies; coordinates with vendors.
