Job summary

Indiana Steel Fabricating Inc. is seeking a Purchasing Manager in Indianapolis to oversee steel, material, coating, and fabrication-service procurement.

The role requires strong supplier relationships, steel-industry experience, and negotiation skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position emphasizes sourcing, PO creation in the ERP, supplier onboarding, and cost optimization while coordinating with Operations, Finance, Sales, and Project Managers to meet production schedules

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of purchasing or supply chain experience.
• Experience procuring steel materials, coatings, fabricated components, or outsourced fabrication services.
• Experience with domestic and international steel suppliers or service centers.
• Familiarity with pricing, cost analysis, and steel market trends.
• Experience using ERP purchasing systems.

Responsibilities

• Procure structural steel, plate, tubing, raw materials, and fabrication supplies for manufacturing and project operations.
• Convert requisitions into purchase orders within the ERP system.
• Source, evaluate, and onboard steel mills, service centers, fabrication vendors, and suppliers.
• Solicit and evaluate competitive quotes for cost-effective purchasing decisions.
• Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and supplier agreements.
• Monitor steel market conditions, pricing trends, material availability, and supplier capabilities.
• Provide current material pricing to Sales and Estimating for quoting.
• Maintain purchasing records and documentation in the ERP system.
• Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Sales, Estimators, and Project Managers to support production and project needs.
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure pricing, quality, and delivery.
• Evaluate supplier performance and total purchasing costs.
• Complete assignments independently while managing multiple priorities.
