Yungman Construction, Inc. seeks a Level 2 Steel Fabricator to produce and assemble structural steel for diverse projects. You will supervise and mentor less experienced workers, with an onsite weld and beam cope test during interview for advancing candidates.
Responsibilities include cutting, welding, interpreting drawings, and ensuring quality and safety. This role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, teamwork, and maintaining an organized shop environment.
Yungman Construction, Inc. is a licensed contractor specializing in steel fabrication for retail, residential and commercial construction projects.
Reporting to the Shop Foreman, the Level 2 Steel Fabricator will be responsible for producing and assembling structural steel components for various residential, retail and commercial construction projects. The candidate will have the ability to assume hands‑on responsibility and to provide supervisory oversight and mentorship for less experienced employees. An onsite weld and beam cope test will be administered at the time of interview for candidates moving forward in the process.
Ability to saw, torch, shear, punch, drill and join metal, often forming new parts and/or structures, utilizing a variety of techniques;
Ability to cut and weld metal materials according to technical plans created by other construction professionals;
Interpret architectural and structural drawings to determine the requirements for each project; Measure, cut and shape steel components, ensuring accuracy and precision;
Review layout, fit and cut components, prior to welding, to ensure specification accuracy and quality control; Operate and maintain various tools and machinery, such as shears, saws, drills and welding equipment; Assemble, weld and fabricate steel components according to project specifications;
Position and align steel components using forklifts and other lifting equipment; Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and construction regulations; Collaborate with other team members and construction professionals to ensure accurate and efficient fabrication processes; Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations at all times; Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or problems that arise during the fabrication process; Maintain a clean and organized work area.
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in welding or metal fabrication preferred; At least 6 years of experience in steel shop fabrication, specifically focused on structural steel and/or miscellaneous metal and/or ornamental steel fabrication; Proficiency in steel fabrication techniques, tools and machinery required;
AWS (welding) certification, a plus;
Ability to drive and operate forklifts and company work vehicles; Proficiency in understanding blueprint reading and interpretation; Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
Astute time management, attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, problem‑solving and critical thinking skills; Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team; Physical stamina and strength to lift and manipulate heavy steel components required; Holder of valid driver's license, clean and insurable record and reliable transportation.
7:00AM – 3:30PM Monday – Friday
$28.00 - $35.00 per hour DOE, for this full-time, non-exempt position
San Luis Obispo, CA - on-site in Fabrication Shop and on location at various construction sites throughout San Luis Obispo County
