The ideal candidate has 5+ years in welding, holds D1.1/D1.8 certifications, and can pass welding and fit tests. There is a strong team culture and opportunities for overtime to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of welding and fabrication experience focusing on structural and architectural steel.
  • Past or current D1.1 and D1.8 certifications required; weld and fit tests during interview.
  • Ability to pass 3G & 4G certification E71T-1C-H8 .045 D1.1 and pass D1.8 restricted access tests.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural and architectural steel components per drawings and specs.
  • Perform high-quality Flux Core/MIG welding on structural/architectural steel and other metals.
  • Cut, shape, and prepare materials using plasma cutters, torches, band saws, grinders, and drill presses.
  • Apply protective coatings and paint to finished products for durability and aesthetics.
  • Operate shop equipment safely, including forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and PPE requirements to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Inspect completed work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project specs.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely project completion and maintain cleanliness of work areas.
  • Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Shop Welder to join our small, dynamic team in a fabrication shop specializing in structural and architectural steel. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of tasks, including fabricating parts, cutting, drilling, fitting, welding, and painting. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, proficiency in operating shop equipment, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabrication and Assembly: Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural and architectural steel components based on structural design drawings and specifications.
  • Welding: Perform high-quality welding (Flux Core and/or MIG) on structural steel, architectural steel, and other metals, ensuring strong, precise welds that meet industry standards.
  • Cutting and Drilling: Use tools such as plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, band saws, grinders, and drill presses to cut, shape, and prepare materials accurately.
  • Painting and Finishing: Apply protective coatings, primers, and paint to finished products to ensure durability and aesthetic quality.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate shop equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting devices, to move materials and components.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, gloves, and respirators, to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members to complete projects efficiently, contributing to all aspects of the fabrication process as needed.
  • Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in welding and fabrication, with a focus on structural and architectural steel.
  • Past or current D1.1 and D1.8 certifications required, applicants to complete weld test and fit test as part of the interview process.
  • Ability to Pass 3G & 4G certification E71T-1C-H8 .045 D1.1 .
  • Ability to Pass D1.8 restricted access test in 1G and 4G
Skills
    • Proficient in Flux Core and/or MIG welding techniques.
    • Ability to read and interpret structural design drawings, technical drawings, and weld symbols.
    • Experience with cutting, drilling, and fitting steel components.
    • Familiarity with painting and finishing processes for steel.
    • Knowledge of safe operation of forklifts and other lifting equipment (forklift certification preferred).
  • Safety: Strong understanding of workplace safety standards, including proper use of PPE and adherence to OSHA regulations.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and fumes.
  • Attributes: Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
  • Certifications: Past or current D1.1 and D1.8 certifications required
Work Environment
  • Location: Small fabrication shop environment.
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Conditions: Work involves exposure to welding fumes, loud noises, and heavy machinery. Proper PPE is required at all times.
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) is a plus.
  • 2-5 years working in structural and architectural steel welding.
