The role focuses on turning architectural and engineering designs into precise 3D models and fabrication shop drawings for manufacturing and construction. The candidate will create 3D models, generate shop drawings with exact dimensions and welding specs, draft erection plans for field crews, detect clashes, and produce material reports while coordinating with project teams.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED required; a degree in drafting, civil engineering, or a related field is often preferred.
• Software Knowledge: Strong skill in 3D modeling tools like Tekla Structures , SDS/2, or AutoCAD.
• Technical Knowledge: Ability to read blueprints and understand industry standards from groups like the AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction).
• Soft Skills: High attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D Models: Build virtual models of steel beams, columns, braces, and connections using Tekla Structures or AutoCAD.
• Produce Shop Drawings: Generate detailed manufacturing blueprints with exact dimensions, hole locations, and welding specs for fabricators.
• Draft Erection Plans: Make clear visual layouts that guide field crews on how to lift and install pieces on site.
• Detect Clashes: Find and fix design conflicts between steel frames and other building systems before production begins.
• Generate Data Reports: Output material lists, bolt summaries, and CNC files for automated cutting and drilling.
• Coordinate with Teams: Talk with project managers, engineers, and shop workers to answer questions and resolve RFIs.
