Job summary

Worldwide Steel Buildings is seeking a Steel Building Designer/Drafter to turn concepts into production-ready drawings. You’ll collaborate with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.

You will create detailed shop drawings, develop erection plans, and build 3D models while preparing BOMs and material lists to support purchasing and fabrication.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in drafting, design, engineering technology, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of steel CAD experience.
• Experience with pre-engineered metal buildings is preferred.
• Experience with Tekla Structures is a plus.
• Ability to read and understand engineered drawings.
• Strong understanding of steel fabrication and construction drawings.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Team-oriented attitude and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed shop drawings for steel fabrication, including dimensions, welds, hole locations, and other fabrication details.
• Develop erection plans that provide field crews with the information they need to install each building.
• Create 3D digital models of steel structures using industry-standard software.
• Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), bolt lists, and material take-offs to support purchasing and fabrication.
• Review designs for accuracy and identify potential conflicts before they reach the shop or job site.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, project managers, and fabrication leads to solve design challenges.
• Assist with RFIs and design questions throughout the project.
• Track project progress from initial design through final production.
• Ensure drawings and designs meet company engineering standards and project requirements.
• Make revisions and updates as projects develop.

What You'll Do

As a Designer/Drafter, you'll play an important role in taking our projects from concept to production. You'll work closely with engineering, project management, and our fabrication teams to make sure every project is accurate, efficient, and ready to build.
