Job summary

Contech Engineered Solutions seeks a Structural Steel Designer to create detailed drawings and material lists using Tekla and AutoCAD, supporting engineering, production, and sales teams in short to medium span bridge projects for national clients.

You will review plans, determine critical dimensions, and ensure timely delivery while maintaining quality. Strong communication and collaboration with design staff are essential to succeed in this on-site, Colorado role.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Drafting, Engineering, or AutoCAD.
• Civil Engineering, architectural, or construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret site plans and engineering documents.

Responsibilities

• Design and Drafting: Independently create detailed drawings and BOMs for manufacture and installation of products.
• Critical Dimensions: Review plans and manuals to determine key dimensions.
• Software Expertise: Use Tekla, AutoCAD, and Excel to complete drawings on schedule.
• Collaboration: Submit and review drawings with peers and staff to meet requirements.
• Quality Assurance: Produce accurate drawings for design staff review and approval.
• Project Prioritization: Prioritize projects based on due dates.
• Standardization: Develop and maintain standard and custom details for product families.
• Communication: Interface between operations, fabrication managers, and engineers as needed.
• Field Visits: Occasionally visit manufacturing facilities or installation sites.

About the Role:

As a Structural Steel Designer, you will:

• Design and Drafting: Utilize custom programs to independently create detailed drawings and, when necessary, bills of material for the manufacture and installation of our products.
• Critical Dimensions: Review design information, site plans, and manuals to determine critical dimensions for designs.
• Software Expertise: Utilize applications such as Tekla, AutoCAD, and Excel to complete drawings within project deadlines.
• Collaboration: Submit and review drawings with peers as needed. Collaborate with the design staff to determine design requirements, modifications, and resolve issues.
• Quality Assurance: Efficiently produce accurate drawings for review and approval by the design staff.
• Project Prioritization: Prioritize assigned projects based on due dates.
• Standardization: Develop and maintain standard and custom details for all product families.
• Communication: Serve as an interface between commercial operations, fabrication plant managers, customer service representatives, and structural engineers when necessary.
• Field Visits: Occasionally visit manufacturing facilities or product installation sites.

Qualifications:

• Associates degree in Drafting, Engineering, or AutoCAD.
• Civil Engineering, architectural, or construction experience preferred.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret site plans, with knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the civil engineering field.
• Strong technical skills, including proficiency in current versions of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla or related programs, experience in the steel industry preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Excellent mathematical skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changes, delays, and unexpected events.
• Strong ability to read and interpret documents, technical manuals, site plans, and engineering concepts.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
