Job summary

Contech Engineered Solutions is seeking a Structural Steel Designer in the United States to deliver detailed drawings and BOMs using Tekla and AutoCAD, supporting engineering, production and sales teams.

The role focuses on short to medium span bridge projects for national clients, requiring precise interpretation of site plans, strong math skills, and collaboration with design staff to meet project deadlines. Familiarity with Excel and steel detailing is a plus.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Drafting, Engineering, or AutoCAD.
• Experience with Tekla, AutoCAD, SolidWorks preferred.
• Ability to read site plans and interpret engineering documents.
• Proficiency with Excel and Office tools.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and Drafting: create detailed drawings and BOMs for manufacture and installation.
• Review site plans to determine critical dimensions for designs.
• Utilize Tekla, AutoCAD and Excel to complete drawings within deadlines.
• Collaborate with design staff to determine requirements and resolve issues.
• Produce accurate drawings for design staff review and approval.
• Prioritize projects based on due dates.
• Develop and maintain standard and custom details for product families.
• Interface with operations, fabrication, and customer service as needed.
• Occasional field visits to facilities or sites.

About the Role:

As a Structural Steel Designer, you will:

• Design and Drafting:Utilize custom programs to independently create detailed drawings and, when necessary, bills of material for the manufacture and installation of our products.
• Critical Dimensions: Review design information, site plans, and manuals to determine critical dimensions for designs.
• Software Expertise:Utilize applications such as Tekla, AutoCAD, and Excel to complete drawings within project deadlines.
• Collaboration:Submit and review drawings with peers as needed. Collaborate with the design staff to determine design requirements, modifications, and resolve issues.
• Quality Assurance:Efficiently produce accurate drawings for review and approval by the design staff.
• Project Prioritization: Prioritize assigned projects based on due dates.
• Standardization:Develop and maintain standard and custom details for all product families.
• Communication:Serve as an interface between commercial operations, fabrication plant managers, customer service representatives, and structural engineers when necessary.
• Field Visits:Occasionally visit manufacturing facilities or product installation sites.

Qualifications:

• Associates degree in Drafting, Engineering, or AutoCAD.
• Civil Engineering, architectural, or construction experience preferred.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret site plans, with knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the civil engineering field.
• Strong technical skills, including proficiency in current versions of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla or related programs, experience in the steel industry preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Excellent mathematical skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changes, delays, and unexpected events.
• Strong ability to read and interpret documents, technical manuals, site plans, and engineering concepts.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
