About the Division

The University of Georgia Facilities Management Division is the largest of seven (7) divisions reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. The exceptional staff of over 900 personnel within the division manage, operate, and maintain campus landscapes, buildings and infrastructure to promote long‑term sustainability.

Position Information

Classification Title: Plumber II

Position Summary

This is skilled steam fitting and welding work at the journeyman level, primarily involved with the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of campus steam distribution system, system components and building steam‑powered equipment. Most work is performed on equipment both inside and outside of buildings. Additionally, work involves pipe fitting and welding in support of steam system and equipment work as well as other general welding work in support of other shop maintenance activities.

  • Journeyman level knowledge, skills and abilities of the welding or pipe fitting trades
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Reading and understanding blueprints, sketches and related documents
  • Relating well with others (customers, co‑workers, supervisors, etc.)
Physical Demands
  • Work in adverse weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc.)
  • Stand, walk, crawl, balance, stoop, bend, squat, work with hands above shoulders, climb ladders and/or scaffolds
  • Lift up to 75 lbs consistently throughout a normal work shift

Credit and Background Checks

Credit check required for positions with financial responsibilities. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain steam distribution system, system components and building steam equipment – 50%
  • Pipe fitting and welding and other welding work in support of general maintenance activities – 35%
  • Perform routine scheduled preventive maintenance on steam components and equipment – 10%
  • Perform other related building maintenance and repair tasks as directed by supervisor – 5%
