Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Steam Systems Mechanic to maintain, repair, modify, replace, and install boilers and related equipment across campus facilities, including the District Steam Systems and steam vaults.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of electronic, pneumatic, and PLC controls, gear box rebuilds, and valve work, while adhering to safety regulations and standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with four years of related experience.
• An associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Systems/Maintenance, Electronic/Industrial Controls, or an Electrical program is preferred.
• Boiler Operator License or ASOPE Class III certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, replacements, and installations on boilers and related equipment.
• Repairs boiler electrical and mechanical components such as pumps, piping, valves, motors and control systems.
• Sets clearances on seals and bearings using precision measuring devices.
• Interprets blueprints and ensures work meets manufacturer specifications and safety rules.
• Maintains records and complies with state and insurance regulations.
