Qualifications

Position Summary

Servicing over 100 structures with 24-hour steam/heating needs, UGA’s Central Steam Plant is a vital necessity to the overall success and health of our university. This individual will perform duties related to any or all levels of boiler operator experience/licensure. The employee will gain Central Steam Plant (CSP) specific experience by acquainting themselves with the foundational knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials related to boilers and steam production.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

• Ability to maintain accurate records and interpret data.
• Possess basic math skills.
• Basic interactive computer skills.
• Familiarity with basic hand tools with ability to make basic repairs when necessary.
• Ability to understand and comply with moderately complex oral and written instruction.

Physical Demands

• Stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, stoop, work with hands above head.
• Work from a standard and/or extended ladder.
• Lift up to 75 lbs.
• Enter confined space.
• Work in elevated ambient temperatures.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Operate high pressure boilers by adjusting campus load as necessary. (50%)
• Maintain boiler operating data/logs relative to CSP SOP’s and state/fed regulations. (30%)
• Assist maintenance techs to make repairs to boiler/auxiliary equipment as needed. (10%)
• Professional Development/Continuous Training to Achieve next level Operator Working Title IAW FMD’s Career Ladder. (10%)
