Job summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking an Assistant Outreach Educator to lead STEAM demonstrations for elementary and middle school learners at Explora. The role supports site leads, collaborates with staff, and helps sustain engaging program materials.

Work is primarily after-school, Monday–Friday 2–6 pm, with potential for some before-school development hours. A background check is required and work-study eligibility is necessary.

Qualifications

• Experience working with youth and children in informal settings.
• Degree-in-progress in education, science, engineering, art, or early childhood.
• Interest in scientific and artistic phenomena and in education.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and planning skills; good verbal and written communication.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate demonstrations, activities and programs in STEAM for elementary and middle school aged children.
• Collaborate with other educators and Explora staff members in the development of programs and maintenance of program materials.
• Deal appropriately with troubling situations or comments; escape situations quickly to site lead and/or manager.
• Contribute to a welcoming out-of school time program at area elementary & middle schools.
• Facilitate inquiry and experiential educational programs.
• Create STEAM interactions that are engaging, effective, and memorable for program participants.
• Support students in completing homework.
• Interact well with students, school staff, parents, and co-workers.
• Maintain a current and valid New Mexico driver's license if travel is required.
