Explora! at The University of New Mexico seeks an Outreach Educator to deliver inquiry-based STEAM programs to diverse audiences in Albuquerque, NM. This off-campus, work-study position supports the Explora Education Team and requires a current Work-Study award.

You'll demonstrate engaging pedagogy, facilitate hands-on activities, and promote excellent customer service while working with families, students, and teachers, with evening hours 5-8pm on designated nights.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young teens in informal settings.
• Degree-in-progress in field of emphasis (education, family studies, physical science, biology, art, early childhood) or equivalent experience.
• Expressed interest in scientific and artistic phenomena and in education.
• Ability to work both independently and with a team.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and planning skills; good verbal and written communication.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate demonstrations, activities and programs in STEAM for a variety of audiences.
• Facilitate experiential educational programs for a variety of audiences, both at Explora and in the community.
• Collaborate with other educators and Explora staff members in program development and materials maintenance.
• Deal with challenging situations; elevate to lead education/manager as needed.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and create a welcoming atmosphere.
• Maintain a current and valid driver’s license if travel is required.
• Work evening hours for family science nights and possible extra hours.
