This position reports directly to the Chief Engineer and involves operating power plant boilers and associated equipment in a combined heat and power system. Responsibilities include maintaining logs and records, performing boiler water treatment, repairing and maintaining machinery, preparing boilers for inspection, and ensuring clean work areas. The role requires compliance with health, safety, and security procedures, and the ability to lift 50 lbs or more. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
This is a Civil Service position. Salaries for union positions are determined by collective bargaining agreements. Applicants must have no felony convictions, including actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The Massachusetts Department of Correction will not hire individuals who have engaged in sexual abuse or have been convicted of related offenses, especially if they have direct contact with offenders. Possession of a current and valid First or Second Class Steam Fireman's license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
