VanDerBosch Plumbing Inc. is seeking a skilled Steam and Hot Water Boiler Service Technician to install, service, troubleshoot and repair steam and hot water boiler systems for residential and commercial clients in the Chicago area.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of boiler experience, strong diagnostic abilities, and is proficient with firetube, watertube, cast iron, and condensing boilers, with relevant licenses and safety certifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience servicing and repairing steam and hot water boilers.
• Strong knowledge of boiler types: firetube, watertube, cast iron, and condensing.
• Proficiency reading blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on steam and hot water boilers, including inspections, cleaning, and testing.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot boiler malfunctions, identifying root causes and implementing effective repair solutions.
• Replace boiler components such as burners, controls, pumps, valves, and piping.
• Conduct boiler start-ups and shut-downs following safety procedures.
• Install new boiler systems and associated equipment per specifications and codes.
• Perform combustion analysis and adjustments for efficiency and emissions.
• Maintain accurate service records with details of work performed and parts used.

Job Summary

The Steam and Hot Water Boiler Service Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various types of steam and hot water boilers and associated systems. This role requires a strong understanding of boiler operation, safety protocols, and diagnostic techniques to ensure optimal performance and compliance. The ideal candidate will be self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and possess excellent problem‑solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on steam and hot water boilers, including inspections, cleaning, and testing.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot boiler malfunctions, identifying root causes and implementing effective repair solutions.
• Execute repairs and replacements of boiler components such as burners, controls, pumps, valves, and piping.
• Conduct boiler start‑ups and shut‑downs, ensuring proper sequence and safety procedures are followed.
• Install new boiler systems and associated auxiliary equipment according to specifications and local codes.
• Perform combustion analysis and make necessary adjustments for optimal efficiency and emissions.
• Maintain accurate service records, including detailed descriptions of work performed, parts used, and recommendations.
• Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
• Provide clear and concise communication with clients regarding service issues, repair options, and system status.
• Participate in on‑call rotation as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or associate's degree in HVAC, mechanical, or a related field is a plus.

• Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces and various weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
