Job summary

Grandview School District seeks a STC Certificated Tutor to deliver literacy routines and hands-on activities at Harriet Thompson Elementary after school. The role supports K-1 students in small groups and requires collaboration with the Program Coordinator for planning and assessments.

The position is temporary for the 2026-2027 school year with training provided and a focus on literacy development. Compensation is an hourly supplemental contract.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must have Washington State Teaching Certificate and meet WA State Certification Criteria.
• Relates well with students, parents and peers; teamwork and curriculum development skills.

Responsibilities

• Implement literacy routines, hands-on literacy activities, games, and basic fact fluency building in after-school program.
• Participate in all training related to the school-aged programs component.
• Assist with organizing, maintaining, and preparing materials for activities; plan literacy activities with Program Coordinator.
• Incorporate one hour of planning time weekly to prepare for programming.
• Assist in administering assessments and submit attendance as designated by policy.
• Support K-1 students needing literacy help in small groups.

What You'll be Doing:

• Implement literacyroutines, hands‑on literacyactivities, games, and/or basic fact fluency‑building activities during the after schoolprogram

• Assist with organizing, maintaining, and preparing materials for activities, as needed
• Work with Program Coordinator to plan literacyactivities that you will be implementing, as needed

• Submit group attendance to the Program Coordinator as designated by program policy
• Work with identified children struggling in literacyin grades K‑1who would benefit from small group assistance in literacy
• Temporary for the 2026.2027school year

What We Offer:

• Pay:$45.00 per hour or per diem, whichever is lower

What You'll Need:

• Education: Bachelors from an accredited college or university in job-related area.
• Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Must have a Washington State Teaching Certificate. Must meet WA State Certification Criteria.
• Minimum qualifications: Relates well with students, parents and peers. Must have excellent classroom control. Willingness and ability to work in a team environment. Willingness and ability to work at district and building level in developing curriculum. An enthusiastic, creative and resourceful motivator of students. Willingness to work with students outside the classroom environment, i.e. club advisor, class advisor, etc. Present a neat, clean, professional appearance at all times. Must be goal oriented (long range and short range).

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
