Job Description

Full Time Rotating 1st and 2nd shift

Operates and maintains power plant and HVAC equipment. Observes and checks central systems such as hot, chilled, and domestic water, fire protection, steam, emergency generators, medical vacuum, oxygen, etc. Provides emergency repairs.

Essential Functions of the Job:
  1. Performs routine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of boilers and boiler room equipment and logs readings.
  2. Inspects the equipment and operation of the boiler room to assure safety regulations are met and efficient operations are maintained.
  3. Starts and stops equipment; observes meters and gauges; manipulates valves and controls to regulate water and fuel flow to meet steam needs; adjusts fuel feed, velocity, and air volume in boilers.
  4. Checks boiler safety shutdown equipment.
  5. Tests Central System’s water condition; adds chemical treatment to maintain proper limits and prevent deposits.
  6. Checks chemical supplies and materials needed in boiler room; submits requisitions to administrative staff.
  7. Starts, stops, adjusts, and regulates mechanical equipment such as compressors, generators, pumps, and steam boilers during shifts.
  8. Checks water levels in boilers.
  9. Observes meters, recorders, pressure, and draft gauges; manipulates valves to maintain readings within specified requirements.
  10. Checks mechanical rooms.
  11. Cleans boiler room and paints assigned sections.
  12. Inspects equipment during operation; makes minor repairs and adjustments as necessary.
  13. Prepares for state and insurance inspections with firesides and watersides.
  14. Provides repair services to other hospital areas as required.
  15. Computes refrigeration requirements and operates centrifugal and tower units as needed.
  16. Assists with snow removal.
  17. Responds to emergency codes as trained and assigned.
  18. Performs other plant operations duties as qualified and assigned.
  19. Performs preventive maintenance as necessary.
  20. Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE COMMITMENTS.
  21. Maintains honest behavior, complies with all laws and regulations.
  22. Maintains confidentiality of all protected health information.
  23. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensure/Certification Required:

  • Grade 2 Stationary Engineer’s license issued by the State of Maryland preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Current driver’s license and own transportation required.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials.
  • Work may require climbing, crawling, and exposure to high or low temperatures.
  • Use of ear and eye protection required.
  • Exposure to electrical shock, chemicals, dust, and other hazards may occur.
