UMBC is seeking a Stationary Engineer – High Temperature/Pressure to perform technical maintenance work as a lead operating engineer on a shift in a power plant with central station refrigeration or air conditioning equipment. Operates and maintains high‑temperature hot water boilers (50+ million BTU) and a 2,000‑ton chiller.
This is an essential position assigned to the night shift, with standard hours of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday – Friday.
UMBC offers reliable hours in a stable work environment. Facilities Management provides free uniforms and shoes for skilled trades positions. Tools are provided for use on the job as well as a UMBC‑owned vehicle to travel to worksites on campus. UMBC also assists with keeping trades licenses current and obtaining needed training.
UMBC offers competitive compensation. This role starts at $76,000 and has 14 days of vacation as well as winter break, spring break, and personal days for regular full‑time roles. Tuition remission is also available.

This is an essential position assigned to the night shift, with standard hours of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday – Friday. Candidates must be available to work during these hours, and occasional weekend or holiday coverage may be required depending on operational needs.
Experience with high‑pressure systems and campus central plant operations is strongly preferred.

Pay Range 13 (starts at $76,000 (prorated for part‑time), commensurate with qualifications and experience) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
