Job summary

Constellation Energy is seeking a Stationary Engineer to operate and maintain eight Cleaver-Brooks 400 and 500 HP boilers at a Frederick, Maryland customer facility.

Requirements include high school diploma or GED, a Maryland Grade 1 Stationary Engineer license or ability to obtain it, and at least five years of boiler experience, plus readiness for emergency response and on-call duty.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 5 years boiler operating experience or equivalent mix of education and hands-on experience.
  • Grade 1 Maryland Stationary Engineer license or ability to obtain one within the specified timeframe.
  • Federal Security Clearance at HSPD-12 minimum or eligibility to obtain it.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude, including switching up to 480 volts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical ability to define issues, research data, identify root causes, maintain confidentiality, and develop sound recommendations.
  • Solid customer service knowledge, interpersonal skills, and effective communication.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Valid driver's license kept current.
  • Ability to lift up to 65 pounds.
  • Comfort working in confined spaces and at various heights.
  • Availability to respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Preferred: instrumentation and controls experience.
  • Preferred: 5 years of experience operating Cleaver Brooks Package Boilers.
  • Preferred: boiler water chemistry and related systems experience.
  • Preferred: familiarity with CB Hawk, Schneider Electric, or comparable operating systems.
  • Preferred: centrifugal chillers and HVAC equipment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor safe working conditions, correct and report safety issues, and enforce compliance.
  • Operate plants as a Stationary Engineer per published procedures.
  • Serve as onsite representative at the customer facility and maintain customer relationships.
  • Monitor plant performance using control systems and technologies.
  • Remain on-call and respond to emergencies.
  • Work in a 24/7 environment, including holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Ensure contractual and regulatory obligations are met.
  • Support safe, efficient commodity supply to meet system demand.
  • Maintain water quality and plant chemistry requirements.
  • Operate, maintain, and perform preventive/predictive maintenance on equipment including Cleaver-Brooks boilers.
  • Create and track work orders for equipment repairs and document results.
  • Implement Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures and complete required documentation.
  • Complete required training to stay aligned with safety and operating standards.
  • Apply knowledge of fire-tube boiler operations, combustion, feedwater systems, and gas hazards.

Responsibilities
  • We maintain and monitor safe working conditions, correcting, reporting, and helping enforce compliance in unsafe areas.
  • We operate assigned plants as a Stationary Engineer in line with our published operating and safety procedures.
  • We serve as the sole onsite representative at the customer facility and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • We monitor plant performance using a range of control systems and technologies.
  • We remain on-call and respond to emergency situations as required.
  • We work within a 24/7 operating environment, including periodic holidays, weekends, and odd hours when plant conditions change.
  • We ensure contractual and regulatory obligations are properly administered and met.
  • We support safe, efficient, and continuous commodity supply to satisfy system demand.
  • We maintain proper water quality by following prescribed water management procedures and plant chemistry requirements.
  • We operate, maintain, and carry out preventive and predictive maintenance, along with minor repairs, on plant equipment including Cleaver-Brooks package boilers.
  • We create, track, and follow up on work orders for equipment repairs while documenting maintenance work and results.
  • We implement Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures by identifying energy sources, applying lockout measures, and completing required documentation.
  • We complete required training to remain aligned with our safety and operating standards.
  • We apply working knowledge of fire-tube boiler operations, combustion processes, feedwater systems, and natural gas combustion hazards.
