Job summary

State of California, Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, seeks a Stationary Engineer (Correctional Facility) to maintain, repair, install and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical/electrical systems. The role supervises incarcerated people and ensures safety of personnel and property.

The position is permanent, full-time, in-office with on-site facilities. Salary ranges from $6,696 to $8,477 per month with new hires at the minimum of the classification.

Under the general supervision of the Chief Engineer I, the Stationary Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, and preventive maintenance to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and mechanical/electrical systems throughout the institution. The position is also responsible for maintaining order, supervising the conduct of incarcerated people(s), and protecting the safety of persons or property.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3% reduction in pay in exchange for five (5) hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.
