Job summary

Job Description And Duties

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full Time Stationary Engineer. This vacancy exists in the Facility Operations Department and is under the direction of the Chief Engineer II. Applicants must possess knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the engineering trade; current knowledge or relevant Cal OSHA safety orders and California Building Standards Codes.

Possession of a valid Driver’s License is required to operate a State owned or leased vehicle.

The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.

ABILITY TO:

Follow oral and written direction; demonstrate mechanical ability; keep accurate records; install, operate and make repairs to the various types of equipment listed above in the knowledge requirements; make written reports, read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings and specifications; lay out work for others and direct them in this work; analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Ability to bend; reach; ascent stairs, slopes, and inclines; work at heights applicable to trade demands; and labor outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Operate automotive equipment and haul materials using state vehicles and vessels.

Operate, Maintain, Troubleshoot, Install and repair; heat pumps, mini splits, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, natural gas furnaces, heat exchangers, air handlers, chillers refrigeration systems, controls, all pumps, and replace bearings/shafts where necessary. Perform Calibration Troubleshooting and Replacement on control valves, regulating valves, pressure controls, pressure reducing stations and humidistats, thermostats, fire damper motors and controls. Perform compressor change outs, thermostatic expansion valves replacement, air conditioning and heating control troubleshooting/replacement, commercial refrigeration equipment troubleshooting and repair. Identify various refrigerants and applications campus wide. Perform air balancing and adjustment per specifications. Refer to blueprints for various conditions throughout the campus building equipment. Troubleshoot and repair solid state controls, motor control panels, motors, direct digital devices, and applications. Maintain and repair air handlers, dampers, damper motors, contactors, belts, pneumatic and direct digital controls. Preform Sheetmetal fabrication, bracket engineering fabrication and other fabrication as necessary. Utilize the Siemens Building Management software and hardware to manipulate chillers, air handlers and controls as necessary. Operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair cooling towers, chillers, and controls. Repair, troubleshoot and maintain single phase and poly phase electrical supply and equipment up to 600 volts.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Boilers and auxiliary boiler room equipment; heating, lighting, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, building electric and pneumatic controls, water treatment and other mechanical or electrical equipment; the methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment.

Posses:

  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal 608 Certification.

The candidate is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings and security areas throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. All employees are required to have an annual health review and repeat health reviews whenever necessary to ascertain that they are free from symptoms indicating the presence of infection and are able to safely perform their essential job functions.
