Job summary

NVE seeks an experienced Stationary Engineer to support Operations & Maintenance at a Federal Facility in Laurel, MD. The role requires licensed engineering credentials and dedication to learning new equipment.

Responsibilities include operating and maintaining the building automation system, performing maintenance as per standards, and ensuring compliance with contract requirements. Candidates must be US citizens able to obtain government clearance.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years in operation of large chillers (≥500 tons) and boilers (≥125 HP).
• Experience in industrial or government facilities; labs desirable.
• First Class Engineer License required; licensing and training proofs will be requested during application.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain government clearance.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Stationary Engineer to support Operations & Maintenance Services at a Federal Facility in Laurel, MD. We are looking for team members who are skilled and licensed as an engineer and also enjoys learning new equipment.

Key Responsibilities

The engineer would be responsible for:

• Operating and maintaining the assigned facility and all related systems/components, including the building automation system.
• Performing tours of areas and/or equipment as directed by management and required under the contract specification.
• Performing service calls, diagnostic services, and incidental, minor, and major repairs as required,
• Performing preventive maintenance duties in accordance with NVE standards, building protocol, manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices. including changing filters, cleaning coils, flushing condensers, punching tubes, greasing fan, pump and motor bearings as required, inspecting and adjusting belts, replacing motor bearings, aligning pulleys and shafts, monitor condenser, chilled, heating and secondary water chemical treatment and its associated feed equipment, clean and maintain cooling towers, and perform annual inspections and other scheduled routines as directed.
• Performing repairs to plumbing fixtures (water closets, urinals, flush valve assemblies, lavatories, etc.)
• Performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs of all equipment and systems outlined in the Employer's contract with the Government.
• Performing other duties as required or directed by management.

Requirements

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the last eight (8) years in the operation of chillers rated at least 500 tons and Boilers 125 boiler-horsepower gas-fired boilers.
• Experience in working within an industrial, laboratory, construction, or commercial building environments. Highly desirable experience includes:
  • Research laboratories
  • Biosafety facilities (BSL-2 / BSL-3 preferred)
  • Animal research facilities (AAALAC preferred)
  • Federal Government facilities
• First (1st) Class Engineer License or comparable license is required. Licensing, certifications, and proof of training, to substantiate experience will be required as part of the application process for:
  • Licensed Stationary Operating Engineer MD 1st Class License
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal CFC License, desirable
  • Factory Training for different boiler/chiller systems, desirable

• Candidates must be US Citizens and have the ability to obtain and maintain a government background investigation. Having an existing background investigation (HSPD-12 clearance) is highly desirable

Desirable Skills

• Ability to read Architectural and Manufacturing blueprints and generate design concepts using available tools.
• Capable with basic office equipment to include cell phone, tablet, telephone, fax and copy scanner.
• Functional knowledge of Building Automation Systems and monitoring controls
