Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as boilers, steam engines, air compressors, generators, motors, medical gas equipment, and other auxiliary equipment to ensure a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Follow standard operating procedures for all tasks.
- Manage HVAC equipment including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, fans, and pumps to optimize efficiency, safety, and comfort, with moderate supervision.
- Keep accurate records of equipment operation, failures, and maintenance using logbooks and CMMS.
- Utilize Building Automation Systems (BAS) for monitoring and controlling HVAC systems, responding to alarms promptly, and optimizing operations.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and other equipment, including inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot issues with HVAC equipment, determine root causes, and execute repairs or installations with minimal impact on hospital operations.
- Address building occupant complaints professionally and take corrective actions, keeping requesters informed.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements through proper documentation.
- Perform general maintenance tasks such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and groundskeeping.
- Respond to service calls and work orders promptly, documenting all tasks in CMMS.
- Read blueprints and manuals to complete maintenance tasks effectively.
Qualifications
- Stationary Engineer license or Power Engineer certification (1st to 5th Class) from relevant authorities or equivalent federal certifications.
- Technical training beyond high school.
- 2-4 years of experience in stationary engineering.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
- Proficient in computer skills, including CMMS, building automation, and Microsoft Office.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical and Work Conditions
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, and perform physical tasks regularly.
- Lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead, and up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest-level or waist height.
- Push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
- Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards, requiring safety awareness.
- Travel may be required, with exposure to road/weather hazards.
- Operate necessary equipment to perform job duties.
