Posted pay rate: $38.48/hr.

Primary Role

The Station Operator may be assigned to perform any responsibility that lies within the capability of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training.

Key Accountabilities
  • Operate the water treatment facility and related appurtenances including, but not limited to, chemical feeders, pumps, purification units, and standby generation and residual processing equipment, to ensure the safe, reliable production and delivery of the highest quality water.
  • Review, monitor, and adjust hydraulic and chemical processes to achieve and maintain established water quality standards and system requirements.
  • Operate and adjust computer control systems to ensure the integrity of water treatment facility, transmission and distribution systems, and remote hydraulic and chemical systems.
  • Prioritize and coordinate tasks and/or activities required for the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of water treatment facility and related appurtenances.
  • Receive and distribute chemicals and materials in accordance with established Company, state, and/or federal safety standards and/or procedures.
  • Perform and/or assist with repairs to Company equipment and/or facilities.
  • Maintain the appearance of water treatment facility and grounds in accordance with Company standards.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate plant and systems records and reports to be turned into the Company in a timely manner. Utilization of company systems, software programs, and devices as necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Comply with all training initiatives and directives.
  • Collect and evaluate process control samples as directed in accordance with established water quality practices.
  • Report conditions in the field that may adversely impact customer service or the public safety, as well as conditions that may result in damage to Company facilities.
  • Prepare Company facilities for adverse weather conditions.
  • Perform water treatment tests and evaluate water samples, as directed, to ensure water quality is within established parameters, and if necessary, adjust treatment processes to ensure the integrity of the water supply.
  • Respond to inquiries accurately and professionally, and when necessary, involve the appropriate individuals to resolve customer and Company-related issues and to achieve the highest level of customer service in all areas of assigned responsibility/
  • Actively monitor, review, acknowledge and respond to (as applicable) all company communications delivered via methods including, but not limited to, company intranet, emails, phone calls, text messages, Microsoft Teams messages, and/or handwritten or printed notes, memos, or reports.
Knowledge/Skills
  • The Station Operator must possess a working knowledge of all facets of water treatment operations including hydraulic, chemical, and electrical equipment and processes, in addition to a thorough understanding of the distribution system network including, but not limited to, gradients, capacities, interconnections, mapping, service territory and facility locations, to insure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the water treatment facility and related appurtenances.
  • The individual must possess a working knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and safety practices, as well as state and federal regulations applicable to area of responsibility including, but not limited to, Confined Space and OSHA regulations.
  • The individual must be detail-oriented and capable of preparing and maintaining accurate records and documents. Utilization of company systems, software programs, and devices necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • The Station Operator must be capable of operating equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assignments and must possess a commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements.
  • The Station Operator must attain and maintain a T-1 and W-1 license and will be required to pass a qualification examination developed by the Company prior to the conclusion of the qualification period. The Station Operator will also be required to attain and maintain a T-2 license in accordance with the educational and operational criteria established by the State of New Jersey.
  • The individual will also be required to pass an annual OSHA medical examination and must be able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical requirements for Station Operator.
Experience/Education
  • High school degree/GED required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class B CDL with Airbrakes and HAZMAT endorsements.
