Job summary

Maryland State Department of Education and The Maryland School for the Blind seek a Statewide Low Vision Specialist/TVI Contract Manager to lead statewide programs for students who are blind or VI, including those with multiple disabilities. You will develop comprehensive plans, provide technical assistance to LEAs, and coordinate accessibility initiatives across MSDE, MSB and partner centers.

This role requires advanced degrees and VI certification, with several years in education

Qualifications

• Master's degree in special education for blind/VI students; Doctorate preferred.
• Current TI/Vision impairment certification (TVI) required; O&M certification helpful.
• 4+ years teaching visually impaired students; 3+ years admin exp in VI programs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate statewide professional learning for MSDE, MSB, LEAs and others.
• Provide technical assistance to LEAs, MSDE and MSB to improve learning accessibility.
• Develop staff development resources as joint MSB/MSDE products.
• Coordinate statewide parent support and resources; collaborate with LEAs and MSB.
• Enhance accessibility of learning materials for blind/VI, DeafBlind, and multiple disabilities.
• Respond to inquiries from LEAs, parents, and others in a timely manner.
• Assist LEAs and MSB to secure needed special education services.
• Serve as MSDE liaison to the State Steering Committee for VI and MIRC.
• Support census for Connections Beyond Sight and Sound; advise grant board.
• Facilitate AIM/DeafBlind census processes; coordinate AIM Coordinator duties for MD.
• Coordinate teacher of the blind/VI certification work group meetings.
• Support DCA on accessibility topics; review online courses.
• Demonstrate ability to use assistive tech for blind/VI students.
