Job summary

Wicomico County Public Schools seeks a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired (TVI) to join the Special Education team in Salisbury, MD. This is a 10-month, full-time position serving students Birth to 21 and requires relevant certification and IEP expertise.

The successful candidate will develop and implement educational plans, collaborate with general and special education staff, and use Braille codes (UEB/Nemeth) and adaptive technologies to support access to learning materials.

Qualifications

• At application time, candidate must hold or be eligible for a TVI certification.
• Dual certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist is preferred.
• Ability to obtain certification in special education as needed.

Responsibilities

• Teach students with visual impairment or multiple disabilities Birth to 21 years.
• Develop, review, and evaluate IEPs and coordinated services.
• Conduct evaluations and write assessments including CVI inventories and Functional Vision Assessments.
• Provide instruction on technology, low vision devices, and access to instructional materials.
• Provide UEB and Nemeth braille instruction and tactile materials usage.
• Collaborate with teachers to ensure accessible materials and IEP implementation.
• Provide parent and staff consultation and strategies for safe, independent movement.
• Other duties as assigned.
