Job summary

The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) seeks a Community Organizer to expand student engagement and build a statewide movement. You will lead outreach, recruitment, leadership development, and campus-to-state advocacy to empower students to influence California Community Colleges policies.

Collaborate with the Communications and Outreach Team, implement engagement strategies both in person and online, and mentor emerging leaders while tracking participation and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, education, nonprofit management, communications or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience in community, student, labor, or grassroots organizing with proven success in recruitment, leadership development, campaigns, or coalition building.
• Proven track record of achieving measurable organizing outcomes, such as increasing membership or leadership development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic student outreach and recruitment to build a diverse membership across communities.
• Collaborate with Communications and Outreach Team to execute recruitment strategies through on-the-ground organizing and digital engagement.
• Move students from awareness to active leadership using the Ladders of Engagement framework.
• Create and distribute outreach materials engaging diverse student populations across the CSU system.
• Coordinate campus outreach, college-to-college engagement, phone banking, text banking, and social media outreach.
• Build strong relationships with students, campus leaders, and regional representatives to foster long-term engagement.
• Identify and mentor emerging student leaders to strengthen regional leadership and statewide networks.
• Plan workshops, trainings, meetings, and leadership development opportunities with SSCCC Board Members.
• Provide ongoing coaching and leadership development to grow student leaders.
