Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, seeks a Silviculture Section Chief to lead statewide forest management programs and oversee the $20M timber sale program from the Harrisburg HQ. This role directs silviculture operations, research coordination, and stakeholder engagement while guiding training for staff and coordinating with federal partners.

You will work a full-time schedule with potential telework up to five days per pay period and possible AWS.

Qualifications

• Minimum experience: One year as Natural Resource Program Specialist 2 or four years in natural resource management/education with a related bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Silvicultural Management: review timber proposals, QC of sale administration and regeneration fund projects, and improve silvicultural guidance used by field staff.
• Program Oversight: manage bidding and contracting of state forest timber sales in line with Commonwealth policies.
• Technical Leadership: provide expertise on applied silviculture techniques and coordinate research needs.
• Training Support: develop and lead training for foresters, technicians, and program staff on silvicultural practices.
• Stakeholder Engagement: represent the bureau at meetings to communicate forest management strategies.
• Program Collaboration: coordinate Good Neighbor Authority activities with federal partners.

Education

Bachelor's degree in natural resource management, parks and recreation, education, biology, forestry, ecology, geosciences, environmental sciences, or a closely related field
