Job summary

Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a Statewide Associate Probation Officer to support daily probation operations, prepare court materials, and supervise non-GPS cases. You will represent the probation department in court and provide information to judges and attorneys while recording dispositions and drafting release or probation conditions.

The role operates under the Chief Probation Officer, with responsibilities across regional courts and potential travel within the assigned region.

Qualifications

• Education and experience aligned with probation or human services work.
• Mandatory associate degree and at least 3 years in human services, criminal justice, or the Trial Court.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cases for court, provide coverage at the counter, and record conditions and dispositions in court.
• Oversee a caseload of administrative and pre-trial cases without GPS or remote alcohol testing requirements.
• Complete indigency intakes and prepare arraignment information for the court.
• Draft conditions of release or probation as required; advise probationers or defendants to comply with conditions (GPS/remote testing excluded).
• Maintain records and monitor community service completion; refer or inform as needed.
• Request warrants in court for offender non-compliance under appropriate supervision.
• Assist in printing and distributing SOAR and adhere to local office policy.
• Be assigned to a region-specific probation department or unit and travel as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.
