Job summary

Department of Public Safety - Fire Marshals Office in Maine seeks a plan review investigator responsible for reviewing architectural plans, construction specifications, and fire protection systems to ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes statewide.

You will work with architects, engineers, contractors, and municipal officials to resolve code issues and issue construction permits and written approvals.

Qualifications

• A four (4) year combination of education and/or experience in inspection and enforcement of laws and regulations.
• Experience reviewing architectural plans and construction specifications is preferred.
• Experience working with architects, engineers, contractors, and municipal officials to resolve code issues.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural plans and specs for new construction, additions, renovations to ensure code compliance.
• Inspect facilities and coordinate with federal, state, and local officials on enforcement actions.
• Issue construction permits and written approvals for compliant projects.
• Prepare financial reports, budgets, and assist in legislative proposals.
• Testify in administrative, civil and/or criminal proceedings when needed.
• Administer and oversee training programs and issue certificates.
