Job summary

LA State Licensing Board for Contractors seeks a Compliance Investigator to independently investigate alleged violations of Louisiana’s Contractors’ Licensing Law and ensure statewide compliance. The role combines fieldwork, legal/regulatory research, reporting, and public education, with opportunities to present findings in Board hearings and courts.

The position requires strong investigative skills, excellent written communication, and the ability to work autonomously across multiple regions.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, administrative services, building inspection, real estate appraisal, law enforcement, investigations, or related licensing work.
• Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR
• Bachelor's degree; experience substitution rules apply as described in the job posting.

Responsibilities

• Visit and audit construction projects statewide to ensure contractors comply with the Contractors’ Licensing Law.
• Verify contractors and subcontractors are properly licensed for the work performed.
• Assess and document project status and crafts present during site visits.
• Prepare complete, court-worthy reports and maintain case information.
• Investigate formal complaints and follow up on leads regarding licensing violations.
• Research court records, filings, and business records to verify allegations.
• Compile evidence and produce court-ready investigative reports for review by leadership.
