Position Overview

The Strategic Project Manager is responsible for executing capital projects, facility expansions, and supporting acquisition evaluations as directed by the Manager of Capital Improvements and Development. This hands‑on leadership role manages projects ranging from a few million to hundreds of millions of dollars, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery while maintaining quality and safety standards. The position requires close collaboration with QA, Engineering, Facilities Engineering, and Operations teams to drive successful project execution and reports to the Manager of Capital Improvements and Development.

Project Execution & Delivery
  • Develop detailed project plans including scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements for assigned projects
  • Manage day‑to‑day project activities, contractor coordination, and vendor relationships to ensure successful delivery
  • Monitor project budgets closely, track variances, and implement corrective actions to maintain financial performance
  • Track project milestones, identify risks and issues, and escalated to Manager of Capital Improvements and Development as needed
  • Ensure all projects meet quality, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Provide regular status updates and progress reports to leadership and stakeholders
Acquisition & Supplier Support
  • Support the Manager of Capital Improvements and Development in evaluating potential acquisition and supplier targets
  • Conduct detailed operational due diligence on acquisition opportunities, assessing facility condition, capacity, equipment, processes, and integration requirements
  • Develop comprehensive post‑acquisition integration plans and lead execution of facility onboarding
  • Identify operational synergies, risks, and improvement opportunities in potential acquisitions
  • Provide operational and technical input to support acquisition financial modeling and decision‑making
Capacity Planning Support
  • Work with the Capacity Manager to develop capacity forecasts and identify expansion needs
  • Analyze capacity constraints and propose solutions to address bottlenecks across locations
  • Develop project scopes and cost estimates for capacity expansion initiatives
  • Provide operational input to support capital allocation recommendations and prioritization decisions
  • Ensure expansion projects align with operational requirements and long‑term capacity strategies
Cross‑Functional Coordination
  • Work closely with the Facility Engineering team to develop detailed project specifications, review technical designs, and resolve design issues
  • Collaborate with Operations teams to coordinate installation schedules, minimize production disruption, and ensure smooth startup and commissioning
  • Coordinate across business development, operations, finance, and technical teams on project activities
  • Support preparation of project proposals and updates for the Manager of Capital Improvements and Development
  • Facilitate communication across departments to maintain project alignment and momentum
  • Ensure Project Engineers maintain day‑to‑day relationships with contractors, consultants, equipment vendors, and service providers
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or related field
  • Ability to travel up to 30% domestically, with potential for additional international travel based on business needs
  • 3‑5 years of progressive experience in capital project management or construction management
  • 2+ years of experience managing and developing engineering or project management professionals
  • Hands‑on experience executing large‑scale capital projects ($10M+) from planning through commissioning
  • Strong project management skills including scheduling, budgeting, and resource management
  • Financial acumen including budget development, cost control, and variance analysis
  • Experience with acquisition due diligence or facility integration projects preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Strong collaboration skills working with Engineering, QA, Facilities Engineering, and Operations teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (MS Project, Primavera, or similar)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Willingness to travel to multiple facility locations and project sites (30%)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering degree (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Civil)
  • Background in manufacturing or multi‑site industrial operations
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credentials
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other design software
  • Lean Six Sigma training
  • Construction management or contractor oversight experience
